SFOINIT

The SFOINIT tab contains the settings for the initialization of the feed wheels. The settings from the SFOINIT tab is effective as long as no SFOI entry is assigned via the control column.

Every created group receives an entry in the SFOINIT tab that can be edited specifically for the group.

If no values were entered for a group, then the values from the group 0 are effective.

You make the following settings on the SFOINIT tab:

Group

Specify a group of feed wheels with common settings.

Quantity of feed wheel groups:
1 – 6 (serial, connected using EFS kit (ID 268 338))
1-100 (CAN, connected using CAN-Gateway)

Group 0
Basic setting, if no values were entered for a group.

If no basic setting was defined for a feed wheel group, the values of the "Group 0" will be effective.
(Default: 4.0 cN for all tensions and 8 windings)

Tip: If only one feed wheel group is used in a knitting program, you can work with the "Group 0". This has the advantage that you do not need to adjust anything in the "SFOI" tab.

Pattern

Name of the pattern in case of rows with pattern-related values

Working [cN]

Value of the yarn tension by cN during the yarn is knitted.

No yarn is taken-up in the carriage reversal.

Value range:
EFS: 0.5 cN - 40 cN
ULTRAFEED: 0.2 – 99.5 cN

Reduced [cN]

Value of the reduced yarn tension by cN during no yarn is knitted.

Normally, the reduced yarn tension is about 0.4 cN higher than the knitting or the reciprocation tension.

Value range:
EFS: 0.5 cN - 40 cN
ULTRAFEED: 0.2 – 99.5 cN

Reciprocation [cN]

Value for the reciprocation tension by cN

The yarn tension is maintained constant:

  • when moving the yarn carrier back and forth and also during a yarn carrier run with overrun path
  • during the carriage reversal

Value range:
EFS: 0.5 cN - 40 cN
ULTRAFEED: 0.2 – 99.5 cN

Operating Mode

Select the operating mode with its specified yarn tension.

  • Reduced Tension
  • Reciprocation
  • Working Tension

Reduced Tension
Only the value from the Reduced [cN] column is used.

When the machine stops (engaging rod down), the reduced yarn tension is active.

Normally, the reduced yarn tension is about 0.4 cN higher than the knitting or the reciprocation tension.
When the machine starts, a small yarn loop results - the yarn tension is reduced. To compensate this, the reduced yarn tension will be increased somewhat.

At the feed wheel, the "Reduced" symbol is only displayed if the reduced and the working yarn tension have different values.

Reciprocation
The values from the Reciprocation [cN] and Reduced [cN] columns are used.

The operating mode "Reciprocation" was developed specifically for the flat knitting machine.

The yarn tension is maintained constant:

  • when moving the yarn carrier back and forth and also during a yarn carrier run with overrun path
  • during the carriage reversal

In the carriage reversal, the yarn length that is not needed will be restored by the feed wheel.
Yarn tensioning path: max. 600 mm (EFS 820: 200 mm)

You can adjust the reciprocation tension in the "Mode 8 / Rec %" column.

Special case: Elastic yarns (e.g. Lycra)
If the yarn breaks in the carriage reversal, select the "Working" operating mode.

Working Tension
The values from the Working [cN] and Reduced [cN] columns are used.

  • During the production (engaging rod up) the feed wheel regulates the yarn tension.
  • No yarn is taken-up in the carriage reversal.

Windings

Specify the quantity of windings around the yarn wheel.

Value range 1 – 40
Default 8

The number of yarn windings are entered directly on the feed wheel (Mode 61).
When threading-up the feed wheel, the yarn is wound around the yarn wheel as many times as you specified.

If you want to change the number of windings, enter it directly on the feed wheel (Mode 61). Then, thread-up the feed wheel again.

REC%

Specify the yarn tension return correction by % for the yarn tension during the take-up process.

Only active with the "Reciprocation" operating mode.

Value range:
EFS: 0 - 200 %
ULTRAFEED: 20 – 150 %

Default 111 %

Increase the value with a heavy yarn to compensate the inertia of the yarn.

With a fine, sensitive yarn reduce the value so that the yarn does not break when accelerating.

Not available for Serial MEMMINGER-IRO.

Adjust the yarn tension return correction:

  • with CAN connection using the Setup menu on the knitting machine
(Do not set the value on the feed wheel, as the setup menu on the knitting machine would overwrite this value.)
  • With serial connection:
EFS: At the feed wheel call up the "Set up -> Mode 8" menu.
ULTRAFEED: Serial connection not possible, only CAN connection possible.

PREC

Specify the permanent take-up function.

The take-up function prevents yarns from sagging after a machine stop.

Value range 0 - 1
Default 0

0 = The feed wheel works with the specified operating mode (Working, Reduced, Reciprocation).

1 = The feed wheel always works with the "Reciprocation" operating mode.

With a machine stop the feed wheel changes to the "Reduced" operating mode by default.

If one is working on the machine, threads can be pulled by mistake - the yarn will be sagging. If the machine is started then, it can lead to an error.

Remedy: Activate the take-up function ("1").
Disadvantage: The feed wheel always works in the "Reciprocation" operating mode and may get hot.

Adjust the take-up function:

  • with CAN connection using the Setup menu on the knitting machine
(Do not set the value on the feed wheel, as the setup menu on the knitting machine would overwrite this value.)
  • With serial connection:
EFS: At the feed wheel call up the "Set up -> Mode 12" menu.
ULTRAFEED: Serial connection not possible, only CAN connection possible.
