Pencil
Select a freehand line:
- The cursor functions are switched off.

- Click the icon
from the Drawing tools toolbar.
- or -
Press the V key.
- The selected drawing tool will be shown as a pressed icon.

- Select the desired needle with the mouse button depressed.
- or -
Click on the starting point of the line and move the mouse pointer with the mouse button depressed.
- As long as the mouse button is pressed, the marking in the Technical View is shown in blue.

- Release the mouse button at the end point of the line.
- The selection is shown in red.
The existing selection is zoomed in if the Ctrl key is pressed during the new selection.
The existing selection is zoomed out if the Ctrl and Alt keys are pressed during the new selection. The selection is zoomed out by the overlapping area.
Individual needles within one needle bed can be selected with the Pencil.
This is not possible with other drawing tools.
When drawing with a color the needle actions are connected logically on the needle beds.
The selection can be influenced with the following functions:
- A needle bed is hidden with the functions and in the context menu of the technical view or fabric view. A hidden needle bed is not selected.
The 
function in the Drawing Tools toolbar is used to search and select the currently set cursor functions in different ways.
Should a selection not be at the desired location, move it during selection with the Tab key pressed.
