Search syntax
Basic rules for search terms:
- The search is not case sensitive.
You can enter your search term in lower cases or capitals. - You can search every combination of characters (a-z) and numbers (0-9).
- Punctuations as full stop (.), colon (:), semicolon (;), comma (,) and hyphenation (-) will be ignored by the search.
- You can not search for single characters (a, b, c, etc)
- You can not search for the following reserved terms:
an, and, as, at, be, but, by, do, for, from, have, he, in, it, not, of, on, or, she, that, the, there, they, this, to, we, which, with, you.
Here comes a hint which will not be displayed correctly with the German words:
ein, und, als, an, sein, aber, von, tun, für, von, haben, er, es, nicht, von, auf, oder, sie, das, die, dort, sie, dies, zu, wir, welche, mit, Sie. - You can not search for quotation marks ":
- 1
- File names with its extention you will find by grouping the hole string in quotation marks ("filename.ext"). Otherwise the search will interpret the full stop as an OR operator.
- 2
- Group the elements of your search by "quotation marks" or (parentheses).
Subtilize or extend the search:
You can subtilize a simple search by Boolean, wildcard, and nested expressions.
You can search for numerical sequences, words and phrases and use wildcards.

Search for |
Example |
Result |
|---|---|---|
|
A single word |
Operating instructions |
Topics which contain the word operating instructions. |
|
Expression |
"224 488" -or- '224 488' |
Topics which contain the Ident number 224 488. |

Wildcards |
*wirin* |
Topics which contains the terms wiring diagram, wirings, electrical wiring, wiriness, etc. ergo singular and plural as well. |

Nested expressions enables you to generate sophisticated search terms.
The basic rules for the search with nested expressions:
Expressions in parentheses will be analyzed before the rest of the query.
If a query does not contain nested expressions it will be analyzed from the left to the right.
Example:
Control NOT active OR dde will find topics which contain the expression control without the expression active or topics which contain the expression control but not the expression dde.
Control NOT (active OR dde) will find topics which contain the expression control without the expression active or dde.
Expressions can not be nested over more than five levels.
