How to Reduce the Quantity of Colors

Example:
You want to restrict the quantity of colors to 6 for a color Jacquard with stripe back.

Reduce the quantity of colors:

  1. Export the image file.
    File / Export / Save for Web (Legacy)…
  • The Save for Web dialog box appears.
  1. Switch the file format to GIF.
  1. Select 6 as quantity of colors.
  1. Lock colors you want to keep.
  1. Finalize the color reduction by Save.
  • The Save Optimized As dialog box appears.
  1. Save image file as *.gif file.

  • The Save for Web dialog box is closed.
  1. Open *.gif file.
  1. Switch the color mode from Indexed Color to RGB Color.

  1. Check the Jacquard floating.

You can use the Float Jacquard Check function on the active layer in the RGB color mode.

Select the gauge to be checked on the STOLL-artwork panel. The result shows a selection of the areas to be corrected.

Example:
You want to have floatings over 4 stitches in the fabric and to see all areas having greater floating lengths.

  1. Select 4 in the Gauge selection menu.
  1. Start the check.
    Float Jacquard Check
  • All areas exceeding the length of 4 pixels are selected.

Do not exceed the floating length of 1 inch!
Longer floatings are possible to knit, but affect comfort and durability of the garment.
Calculation: 1 inch = pixel quantity of the selected gauge

  1. Save the artwork file for reuse in the PSD file format.
  1. Save the artwork file for the import in M1plus in the BMP file format (8-bit indexed / Windows).
    File / Save As… / *.bmp
